At BBharts Conservatory, our Musical Theater program prepares students to become versatile performers, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive on stage, whether on Broadway, national tours, or collegiate training programs.

Miriam De Francisco
Meet the Dean of Musical Theater
Miriam Hernandez De Francisco, founder of BBharts, leads the Musical Theater Department with over 25 years of experience as an educator, director, and performer. A graduate of New World School of the Arts, she has trained and mentored students who have gone on to Broadway, national tours, and top collegiate theater programs. Her passion is shaping versatile, industry-ready performers by combining rigorous training with a deep love for storytelling and the performing arts.
Musical Theater Curriculum by Grade Level
Lower Division (Grades 3-5) – Playful Discovery
Young performers begin their journey in musical theater with a focus on:

Fundamental vocal training for pitch, breath control, and projection

Introduction to movement and choreography for musical numbers

Theater games and improvisation to spark creativity

At this stage, students learn the joy of storytelling through music, movement, and character work, fostering a lifelong love for the arts.

Middle Division (Grades 6-8) – Developing the Triple-Threat Performer
As students advance, they refine their skills in each of the three disciplines—voice, acting, and dance—to create well-rounded performers. Training includes:

Vocal coaching in musical theater repertoire and harmony work

Acting through song, monologue work, and character analysis

Dance technique, with an emphasis on jazz, tap, and stage movement

Scene study and ensemble work to build confidence and storytelling abilities

At this level, students start preparing for larger roles, competitions, and performance showcases.
Upper Division (Grades 9-12) – Pre-Professional Training
High school students receive intensive, conservatory-level training designed to prepare them for college auditions and professional careers. This division focuses on:

Advanced vocal coaching, including belt/mix training and repertoire selection

Acting for stage and screen, preparing students for both theater and on-camera work

Mastery of dance styles, including musical theater jazz, tap, and ballet for performers

Audition preparation, including monologue work, 16-bar cuts, and callback technique

Students graduate with a professional portfolio, audition reels, and networking connections, positioning them for success in the competitive world of musical theater.
